Its been a while since I posted make up photos – so here are some from my last bride. Doesn’t she just look radiant? Like only a bride can! The venue was gorgeous, the old buildings of Bishops High School in Rondebosch.

Make Up and Hair Inspiration

19 Oct

We’re doing a maternity shoot in November and two of my friends are doing my hair and make up, so I can be all spoilt and girly.

Here are the pics that inspired me for the shoot:

I hope my pregnant self can pull it off and I can look all purty-like :)

Misconceived Beauty

23 Sep

Most of you have probably seen this video… but each time I watch it, it reminds me that our world is very superficial about beauty – and there is a certain stereotype that is beauty, and if you don’t fit that type, you can’t qualify as beautiful. This reminds me of the following verses:

Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
Proverbs 31:30

Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful. They were submissive to their own husbands, like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her master. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear.
1 Peter 3:1-6

Beauty is not necessarily a seen thing – but rather a heart thing – something in the attitude, and the way you carry yourself, its in the living out of the inner sanctification. Its the fruit of the Spirit:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Galatians 5:22-23

Think about it… and remember that whenever you feel envious of someone for their looks or feel fat because you don’t look like the girls in magazines.

New Career…

24 Jul

I guess everyone must think I am a real butterfly, flitting from one job to the next. Well, I suppose I am, but I prefer to think of it as the gypsy in me… My new job starts on the 2nd of August. Its one that I have dreamed of for ages. Its the job many friends envy, and other call me crazy for desiring. Its the job of self-employed-make-up-artist/home-maker/soon-to-be-mama.

We have been so blessed this year, with Chris’s job, the pregnancy, the friends we have made, and people who have just given us soooo much awesome baby stuff. Its amazing how the Lord works in our lives each day.

I just wanted to share this with you, as it means I should have plenty more time to blog… well till December anyway…

Hair…

23 Feb

So I know I said I’d wait till AFTER I reach my goal… but I got bored… so I cut my bangs/fringe on Sunday… I don’t have a decent picture of them, so I won’t subject you, my lovely readers to phone pics.

The Husband says I look like Zooey Deschanel (but I’m sure he read my blog, and knew I wanted him to say that :P ) … But my one colleague says its Anne Hathaway (in The Devil Wears Prada).

I’m happy with both… I think they are both lovely lovely lovely

15 Top Beauty Trends (Part 1)

11 Nov

Its time for a make up post… YAY! I was browsing on Allure.com this morning, and found these cool trends… so I thought I would post them, and give a low-down on how to achieve them etc. I’m going to do 5 at a time, so as to spread it out and not overload you all!! Here goes…

1. Smoky eyes: this old favourite is probably the most versatile of all looks, you can do a smoky eye with just about any color under the sun. The basic technique is to use a liner in which ever colour you choose, and line the top and bottom lashes. Use your finger/a brush to blend/smudge the line. Then take your colour shadow, and apply over the liner, smudging outwards slightly. Its really easy, and takes just a few minutes. Top it off with a whip of mascara, and you’re set to go.

2. Glossy nude lips: Start with a light layer of lipbalm, to smooth away any dryness. Wait for it to sink in a bit, then dab off the excess. Apply a nude lipstick to the lips, and line with the same colour liner. Once you’re satisfied with the colour, add a dab off clear/nude gloss to the centre of your lips, this will give just enough gloss without looking gloopy (which is bad).

3: Dewy Skin: The most important part of dewy skin is the preparation. Use a gentle exfoliator, to remove the dry dead skin off your face (don’t do this too often, as it can be too abrasive for your skin). Moisturise with a good moisturiser, and allow it to sink into your skin. Use a primer with a slight highlighting effect, maybe a touch of shimmer, and apply all over your face. Follow with a liquid foundation, not too cakey, so probably a sheer one would be best, or use a tinted moisturiser. Do not apply a powder to set it, as this will make the skin appear matte and not dewy.

4: Red lips: Most women I know are scared of red lips… They think its too bold, and way too showy. I love it! But truthfully, in a corporate environment, red lips can be a bit much. That’s why we get different shades and textures. For work, I’d be more inclined to use a sheer red gloss or tint rather than (to quote my husband in Afrikaans) “HoeRooi”. The trick is to not try to make your lips bigger with red, just follow your natural shape, and don’t forget to us a good liner in the same shade (we do not want visible lines). Also use a lip balm before hand, to ensure that the dryness does not cause the red to look flaky. Try it, red lips give anyone a classy look, and make you feel way more confident!

5: Gold shadow: I loooooove gold shadow. I used to think its tacky, but since started wearing it, I love it. Its actually super classy, and looks warm and sun kissed. I use a light gold as an all over shadow, from lash to brow, followed by a bronzy gold on my lid and slightly under the lower lashes. Its really great for summer.

Product Review: Soft Lips Lip Balm

19 Oct

SoftlipsProduct

Hi, my name is Lizanne and I am addicted to lip balm… (please all say “hi Lizanne”).

I can’t help it, I love the smell and the pretty packages that they come in. All lip balms of all colours and sizes. But of all of them I have a few favourites… Right now, Soft Lips is it. Its tingly, and smells yummy and keeps your lips moisturised for hours. What more do you need? The best part is, its not gooey, and hubby doesn’t go “ew, I’ve been slimed” when I kiss him. Now thats what I call a great lip balm!

Product Review: Revlon Beyond Natural Foundation

3 Sep

When I started this blog my aim was to combine my make up with my faith and do a combo blog. But as you can see… The make up is seriously lacking on this blog, probably because I am not working in the field full time, so its not on my mind all the time. However, after serious deliberation, with some of my friends who do work in the fashion industry, I have decided to work harder at my make up and its portfolio. I have also decided to review some products on my blog, this will be random, so whenever I find a cool product, I’ll review it. Kapish?

Yesterday I finally bought a product I have been eyeing for a while. I first used this on my brother’s date to his matric dance or prom, it was hers and she was adamant that I use it and not my other products. Its Revlon’s Beyond Natural foundation, which adapts to your skin tone as you apply it. The reason I love it is because my skin is soooo white (we used to joke at college that I am a whiter shade of pale), this makes finding foundation a total nightmare, and when I do it costs a fortune. The Beyond Natural foundation matches my skin tone, and blends really well, even without a latex wedge. I just blend it with my fingers and it gives great even coverage. Of course I don’t like caked on base, so if you do, this might be a bit light. Its staying power is also very rave-worthy, at the end of the day, it was still lovely and even, even though I hadn’t even used a powder to set it. The best thing about it is that it is affordable, at only R130, almost anyone can afford that. Beyond Natural comes in a few shades, all which adapt to match the skin.

I think its definitely worth a try if you have the same problem finding foundation that I had. Let me know what you think of it :)
